B: These people are throwing taxpayers’ money down the drain. Somebody must stop them.
A: I’ll try again. Maybe I could go and talk to the press.

译文 Translation

A:我跟委员会的每个成员都谈了。明确告诉他们，如果采用我的方法，只要极小的代价就可以解决那个问题。
B:他们怎么说？
A:一句话也没说。每个人都不停地看表。显而易见，他们对我的建议根本不感兴趣。事实上，他们对问题本身也毫不在乎。他们的冷漠简直令人无法容忍。
B:这些家伙在浪费纳税人的钱财。必须制止他们。
A:我要再试试。也许我可以去找报界谈一谈。

1. throw…down the drain:把……扔进下水道（比喻浪费掉）。
